Granola Mama’s Story
When I was talking about food one day — one of my favorite subjects — a friend of mine who is a great cook, said, “I want to make granola with cardamom.” Thinking further about this, I said, “Well maybe you should go with Indian flavors and make it with ginger and cashews and mangoes.” We talked about getting together to create this granola recipe, but we never had the time.
In the meantime, the California Cottage Food law passed and I began thinking about what I could make in my home kitchen that would qualify for this permit. It has been a dream of mine for a long time to start a home food business. The Cottage Food Law was a great opportunity for me to start a small food product business with a relatively low investment and learn as I grew.
It was during one of those mornings when I was in a sleepy state — that time of the morning when I often get some of my best ideas — that the granola idea came back to me like some kind of divine intervention! I started thinking, “What if I made an Italian granola? What would it taste like? And if I made Mexican granola, what ingredients would I include?” I couldn’t stop thinking about it! It seemed like a concept that was limitless!
This idea also ties in perfectly with my philosophy about food. I believe that food should be an open ended endeavor and not a closed one. Food is a wonderful opportunity to get to know people and places, to learn about different cultures, and not just foreign cultures. I’m talking about your next -door neighbor’s culture as well. I guess you could say that I still believe in eating “everything in moderation.” At the same time, I respect that people have different preferences, and this circles around to appreciating other food cultures.
I like to say, “I’ll eat anything as long as it tastes good!” And this is my goal with Granola Mama’s Handmade: To make truly delicious, lovingly handmade granola.
I hope you enjoy it! As much as I enjoyed making it????
Granola Mama’s Mission
Granola Mama’s Handmade is truly delicious, lovingly handmade granola, inspired by the flavors of cultures and places near and far, using only the best, minimally processed, organic or California grown ingredients possible.
Granola Mama’s Vision
What do we mean by truly delicious? We mean that above all else, our granola tastes great! It’s our first priority. We believe that food tastes better when it is made with love. We believe that food is only as good as the quality of its ingredients. We know that ingredients that are organic, locally grown, whole or minimally processed taste better and are better for so many other reasons.
We are passionate about our belief that food is an accessible way to understand and appreciate different cultures. And not just foreign cultures, but your next door neighbors culture as well. It is our sincere intention to bring you flavor inspired by peoples and places near and far using granola which is familiar to a lot of people, as the palette. With this in mind, the possibilities are limitless!
